The NOHAB-hauled KADARKA EXPRESSZ route will once again lead from Budapest to Szekszárd, following last year’s success. As part of the wine days program, you can watch the harvest parade in the city, but you can also see musical and dance performances, concerts and, of course, there will be an opportunity to taste the celebrated drink.

You can find out about the available car classes, on-board services, individual and optional programs, ticket prices and the schedule by clicking on the tabs above.

We will explain the program on board the train using an audio passenger information system. During this time, our guide will check the validity of the passengers’ tickets. Our colleagues will provide our passengers with good advice if needed, who can choose from individual or pre-paid optional programs.

The buffet in the dining car is open for our guests throughout the train’s journey.

Programs

Szekszárd
The Kadarka Express is visiting Szekszárd, the center of Tolna County, for the second time for a truly lavish celebration, the harvest festival. The Szekszárd wine region has more than 4,000 cellars and many attractions, including Babits’ birthplace, the House of Arts, the Gingerbread Museum, the Embroidery Museum, the remains of the Benedictine Abbey…

A) Jeep off-road wine tour:
Participation fee: 16,000 HUF/person
Length of the program: ~ 90-100 minutes

Last year was a great success among our passengers, this year the organizers are preparing a new location and a longer program time.
During the tour, the wine tour leader will introduce the wine region and in two places you can enjoy white, rosé and bikavér wines according to your taste.
The first stop of the tour is the Csontos Gorge, the highlight of the program is the viewing of the Avar-era human and animal bone remains visible in the gorge wall, which preserve the memory of a presumed ancient battle.

The second stop is the 25-meter-high Bati Lookout Tower, which offers a wonderful panorama for those who want to climb the 84 steps to the top of the lookout tower with the tour guide.

Our passengers can travel to both stations by off-road vehicle and visit places that are not accessible by car. This tour is sure to provide a memorable experience for all participants.

Only our guests over the age of 18 can consume alcohol during the program!

A Land Rover Jeep can transport a maximum of 8 passengers at a time.

The first tour starts from the train station after the train arrives.

The program ends at Béla Király Square in the city center.

If the first and second tours are full, there will be an opportunity to start additional tours, which will start from and arrive at Béla Király Square.
Program length: ~ 90-100 minutes.

First tour starts at: 11:45 AM Departure from the train station, arrives at Béla Király Square
Second tour starts at: 1:30 PM Departure from Béla Király Square - can also be chosen after sightseeing
Third tour starts at: 3:15 PM Departure if the first two tours are full.

B) Cultural sightseeing walk with tour guide:
Participation fee: 5,000 HUF/person
Program length: ~ 60 minutes
Minimum number of people: 10 people
During the cultural walk, starting from the train station, you can get acquainted with the history and sights of the city, and the local tour guide will tell you interesting facts and tell you interesting things.
The program starts from the train station after the train arrives and ends in the city center at Béla király tér.

Those of our passengers who would like to participate in both the Jeep tour and the cultural walk, please choose the second or third of the Jeep tour options in order to avoid program conflicts.

C) Alisca Winery cellar visit, wine tasting
Participation fee: 16,000 HUF/person
Length of the program: ~ 150-160 minutes
Minimum number of people: 12 people
Alisca… What does the name mean?
This was the name of the military camp near Szekszárd during the Roman Empire, as the ancient Romans were not only masters of battle, but also masters of wine and feasting. At the event, visitors can gain insight into the secrets of artisanal winemaking, learn about the interesting facts of ancient Rome throughout the history of wine, all in the cellar of the Alisca winery, where each person can taste 9 types of wine in quantities of 1-1 dl, and the winemaker will treat them to a wine skate containing cheese, apples, hazelnuts, and scones.

Only guests over the age of 18 can participate in this program.

In the case of individual programs, we ask that you always check the current opening hours and fees of the museums, lookouts, lifts, and other attractions you wish to visit on their websites. Please check the expected weather of the chosen landing location before the excursion and dress accordingly. We recommend the website www.met.hu for this. Please always arrive back at the train station at least 15-20 minutes before the train departs. Our train schedule cannot be changed due to passenger delays.
