On the steam locomotive-hauled nostalgia train that travels to the picturesque Danube Bend, our guests can travel in the most beautiful museum cars and get to know the atmosphere of railway travel in the “happy peacetimes”. The nostalgia train is driven by the serial number 424 steam locomotive.

We start our journey in the morning at Budapest-Nyugati Railway Station. It is worth arriving at the railway station a little earlier so that you have time to see the breathing, puffing, truly dignified steam locomotive before departure.
We will explain the program on board the train using an audio passenger information system. During this time, our guide will check the validity of the passengers’ tickets. If required, our colleagues will provide our passengers with a map and good advice, who can get off the train at a place corresponding to the individual or pre-paid optional program. Our train will only stay at the landing points for a few minutes, then continue its journey to the final station, Szob.
The nostalgia buffet car is open to our guests throughout the train’s journey.
Stops and programs
Vác
The most populous city in the Danube Bend, and at the same time one of the most important sites in Hungarian railway history, as the first train in the country started between Budapest and Vác in 1846. The line to Vác was opened on July 15, 1846, in a ceremonial setting, in the presence of Palatine József and his family. The special train covered the 33.6 km long journey in 59 minutes, with a 10-minute stop at Dunakeszi. Sándor Petőfi also traveled on the railway line, which inspired him to write his poem "On the Railway".
The city awaits visitors with numerous attractions, such as the Bishop’s Palace, the Cathedral or the Honvéd Memorial. A notable building is the Stone Gate - the early classicist triumphal arch built by Bishop Migazzi for the visit of Maria Theresa.
Kismaros
A popular holiday and excursion destination. The small railway starts from here via Szokolya to Királyrét, in the valley of the Morgó stream. The settlement’s Roman Catholic church was built in the classicist style in 1827. There is also a hunting lodge, which is currently used as a social home.

From the Kismaros railway station, we take a short walk to the end station of the Királyréti Forest Railway, then we climb up to Királyrét by light railway (travel time of the light railway: approx. 30 minutes). While we are given a historical summary of Királyrét and its wildlife, we set off on a 2.5-3 km guided walk with our tour guide. We cross streams in the forest landscape, listen to our guide about the wildlife of Lake Bajdázói. The bravest can also take a look at the abandoned iron mine. The tour is interrupted by a two-course lunch, which we eat under cover. Not far from the end station of the light railway, we can try the driving track dotted with ups and downs, after which there is a free program until the light railway returns.
The program fee includes: a round-trip ticket for the Királyréti Forest Railway from Kismaros, a guided tour, a tour on the drive track, a two-course lunch with a glass of mineral water.
C) Nagymaros - Visegrád

Child: 5,490 HUF/person

The participation fees include the price of the entrance tickets to the Royal Palace and the Solomon Tower. The participation fee does not include the price of the ferry tickets required for the crossing, which everyone must purchase individually on site.
The distance from the ferry port to Solomon’s Tower is nearly 2 km, which guests can do on foot, so we ask everyone to wear comfortable shoes and only those who feel physically fit enough to walk the entire tour should undertake this tour.
Getting off at the Nagymaros–Visegrád railway station, we take a ferry to Visegrád, where a special historical walk awaits those interested, led by art historian Mária Réti.
We will explore the impressive halls of the Royal Palace and the medieval world of Solomon’s Tower, while the once splendid court of the Hungarian kings comes to life before us. We can also admire the famous Hercules Well, the restored royal suites, the Renaissance details and the atmospheric palace garden.
During the program, we can hear exciting stories about the era of King Matthias, Charles Robert and the Visegrád royal meeting, and we can glimpse into the world when Visegrád was one of the most important centers of the Hungarian kingdom.
The walk continues in the Solomon Tower, where archaeological finds and medieval relics make the past even more vivid.

The Julianus Lookout in Hegyesteő offers a wonderful panorama of the Danube Bend. Here, in the twin city of Visegrád, the famous African researcher, hunter and ornithologist Kálmán Kittenberger lived and worked, whose statue was unveiled in the main square of the city at the opening of the 1971 World Hunting Exhibition. The pride of the locals is the Roman Catholic church, of which only the tower, built in 1509, can be seen in its original state - after the Turkish invasion, the church was equipped with a Baroque vault and furnishings.
